The Ogoki River is one of the last untamed and truly remote waterways in northern Ontario. A combination of river, whitewater, and chains of lakes, the Ogoki is the heart and main artery of Wabakimi Wilderness Park, one of the largest wilderness areas in the world, and the largest canoeing area anywhere. The Ogoki is accessible only by canoe or floatplane, and is many, many miles from any roads. Fish species include walleye, huge pike, and speckled and lake trout. It has never had any human influence of any kind, except for hunting, fishing, backcountry camping, and remote canoeing. It is home to many rare boreal species, including the secretive and threatened woodland caribou.
